To become a forester you must first go to college to learn about the science and art of forestry. There are currently two universities in the State of Michigan where a student can major in forestry. Follow the links below to learn more about Michigan's forestry schools.

Michigan State University - Department of Forestry

Michigan State University is located in East Lansing Michigan and has been in operation for over 100 years. MSU's Forestry Department has a rich history training foresters in the State of Michigan, and it continues to be a world-class institution. MSU's campus is home to some of the nation's oldest forestry research projects.

Michigan Technological University - School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science

Founded in 1936 Michigan Technological University's School of Forest Resources and Environmental Sciences is the younger of the two Michigan schools. Michigan Tech is located in the town of Houghton, Michigan which is near the base of the Keweenaw Peninsula. The school boasts a 5,500 acre forest used to educate their students.

Michigan Tech offers undergratuate, masters, and PhD curriculums in Forestry, as well as a masters degree that combines academics with service in the Peace Corps.  Click on the link below to visit the school's website.
