Windbreaks provide a multitude of benefits.  They can help lower heating costs, protect soil from erosion, protect crops from damage, provide wildlife habitat, and help with directing snow drifts.

The District staff, in conjunction with the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service, can help with the planning and establishment of windbreaks.  Planning service are available, the District sells a wide variety of suitable trees and shrubs through its annual seedling sale, and there may be cost-share through the USDA.
