The Wexford Conservation District is seeking a half-time technician to assist in the work of the North Country Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area.
Duties:
- Produce quarterly NCCISMA e-newsletter
- Participate in public outreach events including some weekends
- Invasive species control activities including survey work, flagging roadside infestations, and treatments involving both mechanical and chemical methods
- Assist in development of educational outreach materials including brochures and educational signs
- Develop and deliver educational programs, including PowerPoint presentations, to a variety of audiences
- Assist in inventory of educational signage at smaller lake & river access sites - achieved through interviews of water recreationists, fisherman, and fishing outfitters and some field inspections
- Coordinate and document partner contributions for grant matching funds
- Coordinate and document partner and NCCISMA contributions for grant deliverables
- Provide updates to NorthCountryInvasives.org website including maintaining NCCISMA/partners calendar of events and uploading and managing outreach template sharing
- Assist NCCISMA Program Coordinator with inventory and strategizing treatments of Invasive Species within a five county area
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required. Interest in natural resources preferred
- Skills with Microsoft Office such as Word, Publisher, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Must be a team player, but also able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Possession of valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle for job-related travel. Mileage reimbursement will be provided.
Work Environment and Specifications:
- Job will be primarily stationed out of the Missaukee Conservation District office in Lake City, but occasionally reporting station will be at the Wexford Conservation District office in Cadillac.
- Majority of the work will be performed in the office, but the position will also involve field work in a 5-county area in a variety of weather conditions
- Pay is $12 - $15 per hour depending on qualifications and experience. Sick, vacation, and holiday pay included. No health or retirement benefits.
- This is a grant-funded position that will begin in mid-May and run through December, 2017. The position will likely continue beyond that date, but is dependent on grant renewal.
